Vintage Caterpillar tractor engine replacement part 2R1361 temp gauge&sensor

1968 vintage new old stock replacement part for a Caterpillar engine system with the original box. This is a control panel temperature gauge and thermometer with sensing cable. The box is marked with part number 2R1361. It is also marked with the following number (but we're not sure what they mean, sorry), 2420-999-3149, DSA700-68-F-1319, PSO 385847M, D9844. The gauge reads Converter Temp and is marked with a temperature range from 140 to 275 degrees fahrenheit.

We've been told that it is to measure the internal temperature of the torque converter between the engine and the transmission, but we're not sure. If you need this part, you probably know a lot more about it then we do.

We're not sure what Caterpillar engine or power train this gauge and sensor are for, whether it is for their agricultural line of tractors or their large industrial and construction equipment, bulldozers, end loaders, earth movers etc.
