Vintage ceramic owl made in Hawaii, tall hand-painted owl incense burner?

Retro 70s vintage ceramic owl marked Hawaii, hand painted in rustic earth tones on white. He's made open at the bottom and has a hole at the top of his head... an incense burner? or a piece made to hang on a macrame cord?

He's in very nice condition, and doesn't appear to have ever been used for either purpose. He's cute, clean and quiet... what more could you ask for? We love this guy.
