Vintage Japan lacquerware sake set, tiny lacquer goblets & tray

Vintage black lacquerware sake set, made in Japan. The tiny glasses are 2 3/4" tall, and the tray measures 13 3/4" end to end. We aren't sure if these pieces are wood or melamine under the black and gold finish.

This set is in excellent condition, never used. We think it was probably made for the Japanese market or to sell as a souvenir in Japan, rather than an export piece, on account of the number of glasses (five instead of six). The tray could probably hold another glass if you'd like!
