Kitschy retro ceramic fish wall pocket planters, mid-century vintage

Pair of vintage ceramic fish wall pockets to use as planters for real greenery, or plastic flowers and ivy! These sadly are not in the best of condition, as they have numerous old chips and repairs, and some wear to the original paint.

They're 8 1/2" tall top to bottom, without any makers marks at all as far as we could tell. We'd guess that these are mid-century, 50s or 60s vintage - but we're not sure of they're USA (California pottery?) or made in Japan.
