Vintage Italian alabaster marble bookends, carved stone parrot birds

Pair of beautiful carved and hand tinted alabaster bird bookends. These are made in Italy, 60s vintage.

The birds are 5" tall, and aren't hugely heavy. Nicely sized to fit on a small desk or reading table.

There's some debate here as to the birds and their tails - with about half voting for doves, and the rest voting parrots, with damage to their tails.

The tails do look a little odd, but it seems strange that they'd be broken to match rather than made the same. But (I'm voting parrot!) the beaks are clearly more like parrots, so maybe the tails were just made on the short side. Please see photos, and decide for yourself.
